first_imgOpal E. DunlapOpal E. Dunlap, age 94, died Friday, May 9, 2014 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.Opal E. Parks Dunlap was born to Robert M. Parks and Ines E. (Davis) Parks at Hunnewell, KS on January 30, 1920.  She was born on a school quarter (80 acres) just across the line in Oklahoma.  She was an only child.  At the time of her birth her folks had been married 18 years.Opal spent the first seven years in Oklahoma attending Alpha School.  In 1927 she moved with her folks to South Haven.  She continued her education graduating with the Class of 1938.  She played the violin in the orchestra and also played the piano.In the fall of that year she attended Arkansas City Junior College.  Her dream was to become a teacher.  The following year she transferred to Pittsburg College and graduated the following year with a Life Certificate.  She taught nine years in rural school in the community, the last two years in South Haven School.  She became a member of the South Haven Methodist Church at the age of 12.On June 12, 1942, she married Edward W. Dunlap in Wichita.  To this union was born Glinda J., Lloyd E. and Anita Faye.She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 55 years, Edward; two grandsons, Christopher Dunlap and Evan Parker.She is survived by Glinda and Frank Ross of Greeley, CO, Lloyd and Cindy Dunlap of Ponca City, OK, and Anita and King Dixon of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Heather Chapman and Dan of Parker, CO, Jana Woodson and Mike of Richmond, VA, Lindsey Dunlap of Topeka, KS, Lance Parker and Stacey of Belle Plaine, KS, Caleb Foster and Samantha of Springfield, MO; and eight great grandchildren.Funeral Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in South Haven, KS on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 10:30 a.m.  Rev. Caleb Foster and Rev. Russell McAlister will officiate.  Interment will follow the service at Rose Hill Cemetery.Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 1 to 8 p.m.  The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.A memorial has been established with the South Haven U.S.D. #509 Scholarship Fund.  Contributions can be left at the funeral home.Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.To leave condolences or sign our guest book, please visit our website at www.frankfuneralhome.netlast_img
