A CAMPAIGN has been launched to prove Letterkenny does have Soul! After the Lonely Planet Guide 2012 described Letterkenny as having ‘no soul,’ Andrea McGowan has set out to prove them wrong.“Letterkenny’s Got Soul” on March 23rd will prove to the world that the town has a thriving soul within our community, she says. The event in The Cavern, Lower Main Street, Letterkenny will bring soul music and soul food to the town, and at only €10 a ticket, all of the proceeds will go to charity. Food on the night will include fried chicken, cornbread, barbecue ribs, apple pie, Mississippi mud pie and pecan pie, giving us a real taste of Southern soul! There will also be a raffle with a chance to win a 4* hotel break on the night.“Like most Letterkenny people, hearing that the Lonely Planet Guide 2012 has slated Letterkenny for having ‘no soul’ was a painful experience!” says Andrea, “so I’m setting out to prove them wrong, and all in the name of a good cause.”As part of her ‘Give Time 2012’ campaign to promote volunteering in Ireland by volunteering with a different group for each week of the year, Andrea joined the Irish Wheelchair Association on their ski trip to Livigno, Italy on the 21st of January. Andrea will need to raise a minimum of €2750 to help the charity in return for her place on the ski trip, and the ‘Letterkenny’s Got Soul’ event will go some way to raising that amount.Andrea is calling on local residents to come along on the night to support this great cause. You can turn up on the night, from 9pm, but if you would like to book tickets, at €10 each, contact Andrea on 085 1254 158, by email [email protected], on twitter @Cloud_Ireland or visit givetime2012.wordpress.com. Tickets are also available from Link2 in the Letterkenny Shopping Centre. In case you’ve forgotten The Lonely Planet Guide 2012 stated: “Ruined by the excesses of the Celtic Tiger era, Letterkenny is a market town run amok. Mindless development has resulted in numerous faceless retail parks lining the roads, traffic problems and a complete lack of soul. However, as Donegal’s largest town, it’s buzzing with students and young professionals, and there’s a good choice of restaurants and accommodation.”CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED TO PROVE LETTERKENNY HAS ‘SOUL’! was last modified: March 13th, 2012 by BrendaShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED TO PROVE LETTERKENNY HAS ‘SOUL’!
