Javier Mascherano, centre-back – The Argentine has also been linked with a move to Serie A giants Juve, but the 32-year-old appears to be staying put. Since joining the Blaugrana as a midfielder from Liverpool in 2010, Mascherano has transformed into one of the world’s best central defenders. Lucas Digne, left-back – The France full-back sealed a move to the Catalan giants, amid reported interest from Arsenal and Liverpool. He spent last season on loan at Roma, making 33 Serie A appearances and cost the LaLiga champions a reported £14million. His starting place is not a given with Jordi Alba the current first choice. 11 Ivan Rakitic, midfield – The Croatian impressed in Barca’s midfield three last term as they held off competition to win LaLiga. Rakitic, 28, made 65 appearances for club and country [including Euro 2016] last term, scoring 11 goals. His hard work, consistency and organisation in midfield helped Barca ease the pain of losing club legend Xavi. 11 11 Samuel Umtiti, centre-back – The France defender impressed for Lyon last term and then for his nation in Euro 2016. Barca wasted no time in snapping up the 22-year-old for a reported £21million fee and it will be interesting where he lies in the central defensive pecking order, with Gerard Pique and Jeremy Mathieu also competing for places, while Thomas Vermaelen is set to leave. 11 11 11 Sergio Busquets, midfield – The 27-year-old is ever-present and will play his ninth season with the Blaugrana’s first team. He has become a reliable unsung hero deep in midfield, allowing the likes of Iniesta and co. to roam freely. 11 11 Aleix Vidal, right-back – After Dani Alves’ departure to Juventus, the right-back spot opens up which Vidal and Douglas will be hoping to stake a claim for. But it looks like Vidal may be first choice, with some reports suggesting Enrique wants to move Brazilian Douglas on. 11 Marc-Andre ter Stegen, goalkeeper – Click the arrow, above right, to see a possible Barcelona line up in the 2016/17 season – After sharing the role with Claudio Bravo over the last two seasons, reports suggest the 24-year-old German has now been told he will be first choice at the Camp Nou. 11 Neymar Jr, left forward – Brazil’s poster boy is living up to expectations after his incredible rise as a teenager. Like Messi and Suarez, Neymar’s inclusion is a given. The 24-year-old did not quite match his team-mates in the scoring charts, but he still managed 31 goals for club and country. Not bad. Luis Suarez, centre forward – The Uruguayan continues to amaze in a Blaugrana shirt and he has put himself right into the mix for the Ballon d’Or. The 29-year-old scored an incredible 59 goals in 53 appearances for his club in the 2015/16 season. 11 Andres Iniesta, midfield – The Barca legend’s inclusion is a given. He has nearly 400 senior appearances to his name and the 32-year-old showed his importance at times last season, as few players can match his creativity. Lionel Messi, right forward – This one goes without saying. The club legend scored his 500th career goal against Valencia in April and he netted 47 times in 56 appearances for club and country last season. At 29, he is not done yet. last_img
