DES MOINES, Iowa – Cortni Rush, a Mason City native and a three-year Drake women’s basketball letterwinner, has joined the Drake women’s basketball coaching staff as its new coordinator of basketball operations, head coach Jennie Baranczyk announced Thursday, April 12. Following her senior season, Rush was awarded the program’s Charles E. Leonard award. The Charles E. Leonard award is given to a student-athlete who embodies a positive, enthusiastic attitude towards basketball and life. She graduated in May, 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in health sciences. Prior to her return to Drake, Rush was an assistant coach at North Iowa and coached club basketball with the North Iowa Fire. In her one season on the NIACC coaching staff, the Trojans finished second in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. “I am super excited to welcome Cortni back,” Baranczyk said. “Her return is a testament to the way our alums feel about our program and Drake. She has been successful everywhere she has been and I know she will do great. I loved coaching her and love coaching with her now.” “I think most student-athletes can attest to the Drake experience being one in a million, so it was an easy decision to come back and be a part of the women’s basketball staff,” Rush said. “In the position, I’ll be learning from an all-class staff and program, and will be surrounded by a really special community. I am really looking forward to giving back and getting started.” Print Friendly Versionlast_img
